How is the audio getting into your computer and/or capture card? Is it using your sound card as audio input? If so, just adjust your record level settings in "Recording Control" in Windows.

If its an avi file you captured to then open in virtualdub and set audio to full processing mode and set the volume to the level you want and set video to direct stream processing and save avi as..

Here's a typical command line to convert an audio file.

    Code:
    "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\BeSweet\BeSweet.exe" -core( -input audio.mp2 -output audio.mpa -logfile audio.log ) -ota( -g max ) -ssrc( --rate 48000 ) -2lame( -e -b 224 -m s )
The '-ota( -g max )' command 'normalises' the volume, try this first, if it's still too loud then try reducing the volume by changing the value 'max' to a negative decibel value,
    eg '-ota( -g -5db )'.

Also change the other vlaues to suit your file (rate, kps, input file, output file etc).

    Glad it worked.

The audio is normally captured through the 'line in' socket on your sound card, this has it's own volume control separate from the standard PC volume - check this, it's probably set too high.

that's the weird thing, I've been capturing for a month now, and all of a sudden this one capture got insane sound, I haven't changed my settings before or after, and now it's back to normal, maybe comedycentral had a problem?
