  1. What is DMA? My Samsung 16x dvdrom sd-612 model needs this turned off for me to be able to rip dvds. If it is on, then I get the blue screen of death. I read on the forum that it's better to have this option on, but I cannot have it on or smartripper will not work. Any solutions? Furthermore, do i need sync data transfer enabled or disabled?

    Thanx for your time

DMA stands for direct memory access. What it does is allow you to basically bypass the cpu when reading from a disk. The info goes directly into memory speeding up the read time dramatically. Having DMA enabled makes ripping a dvd much faster and it really should never cause any problems. You might have a driver conflict somewhere. I recommend you try updating all your drivers including the dvd-rom and your ide controllers. sorry off the top of my head I dont know exactly what sync data transfer does but I believe it should be checked because it will speed up ripping.
