  1. DVD Lab allows you to add non-standard video sizes, So I got to thinking.

Would it be possible to add 1080i HDTV recordings after they have been demuxed from their .TS files? I mean.. I know it's possible, I just did it. I can play the resulting DVD in my computer but it skips like crazy, it does this from both the DVD and the HD. I assume because of the insanely high bitrate. Anybody know if this is the cause? Or am I missing something here. I would assume that if I can watch the resulting MPG file that I remuxed from the video file fine then I should be able to watch it after I author it.

1 minute of video is about 150mb for me. So I figure I could get about 30 minutes of HDTV on 1 DVD and watch this on my computer. I'm just hoping that I can do this with adding a cool menu and stuff.. But I might just settle for backing up the MPG to DVD and watching it that way.

Edit: i'm a moron.. I had to demultiplex it, rename the .mpa to .ac3 and then author.. duh.

It's because of the bitrate and much more.

The MPEG-2 profile for an HDTV stream is what is known as "Main Profile, High Level," or MP@HL. DVD's MPEG-profile is "Main Profile, Main Level" or
    "MP@ML".

A DVD player may or may not be able to handle a MP@HL stream, but the max bitrate of a DVD is around 10MBits w/audio, so it's never good to exceed 8000MBits on the video if possible. HDTV more than exceeds that at 12MBits.

What I've been doing is using DVD2AVI2 (the HDTV-friendly version) to generate a d2v file, which I then wrap in an AVISynth file to import into TMPGEnc. After I render the video, I do corrections on the AC3 stream and mux the end result, after which I take it into MediaStudio pro to add transitions and titles.

After it's all done, I take it into TMPGEnc DVD AUthor and burn the DVD. The results are absoultely spectacular.

But the video has to be rerendered into something a little more DVD-friendly.[/quote]
