i tried serching the answer but with no luck.
I need to be able to shrink the AUDIO TS and Video TS
i want to backup Metallica's DVD audio which
contains about 6.5 gig but dvd shrink sees only
a portion of it (the regular 5.1)
How to shrink it to fit a normal dvdr ?
What tool to use?
thanks

Actually no,
Dvd shrink seems to take care of the Video TS folder (400 megs) and not the
Audio TS folder (6.1 gig) and i absolutly want the AUDIO TS content compressed to fit a dvd R

Out of curiosity, what is the file list of the AUDIO_TS folder?

grosbarbu, I'm not saying its not possible, but I've not seen anyone backing up DVD Audio disc yet. I think new tools would be needed, but I'm not sure if the draw is big enough for them to get made at this point.

Actually I think InstantCopy transcodes the Audio Folder. If you load up a DVD the Audio folder is in the list box with the checks. Give it a shot, couldnt hurt.

2 BIG problems there:
1. Most DVD-Audio discs are encrypted. They use something besides CSS (newer and supposedly better). As of this date, there has been any way to decrypt them.
2. DVD-Audio uses either UNCOMPRESSED LPCM streams or MLP (~2:1 Losslessly compressed and proprietary) streams. Therefore, there wouldn't be any point to making them smaller. You can't compress and LPCM and have it remain LPCM, and you can't compress MLP any more than it already is without it being lossy compression which isn't supported.
Sure, you could compress to AC3 or DTS or Mp2, but then it wouldn't be a DVD-Audio compatible disc anymore.
BTW, I don't have my copy of DVD DeMystified in front of me right now, but I remember that, for the most part, the DVD-Audio files in AUDIO_TS are named with a scheme congruent with the DVD-Video files in VIDEO_TS.
Example:
VIDEO_TS
--VTS_01.VOB (V=video)
--VTS_01.IFO
--VTS_01.BUP
AUDIO_TS
--ATS_01.AOB (A=audio)
--ATS_01.IFO
--ATS_01.BUP

Just a thought...
If anyone ever got around to figuring out the 1st problem, the 2nd one could be gotten around in a couple of ways:
1. Split to 2 discs (on track boundaries of course)
2. Resample from 88/96/176/192kHz to 44/48kHz
3. Apply MLP to LPCM tracks (requires licensed encoder and capable authoring app)
4. Downmix from 5.1 to 2ch (possibly in concert w/ #2)
5. Change bit depth from 24 bit to 20 or 16bit (poss. in concert w/ #2 or #4)
6. Lose extra/bonus tracks
