  1. To convert Final Cut Express , Final Cut, iMovie file into divx proceed as follow.

    1) Export your movie NOT in a quicktime .mov format but in Quicktime DV stream format (.dv)
    2) Use FastDivx preset in ffmpegX and (eventually) crop the black border before encode!!

This is necessary because ffmpeg don't recognize well .mov Quictime file that contain DV data.

  2. This tip works fine .. however there is one problem.
the avi generated by ffmpeg engine looks better on Mac and Pc but if i try to put on my stand alone divx player i'm not able to read it... ARRRGHH!!!!
If i encode with mencoder engine all works fine and i can read it in my stand alone player but......!!!! ARGGHH!!
Major say me that is a dimension limit of input file when using mencoder and say to me to try solving by encode the dv file in mjpeg a and then in divx with ffmepg....
But Mjpeg A file at the maximum quality is BIGGER than DV !!!!!!
My problem (and your) is still unsolved...

Correct, it has to be bigger than DV. But you should then be able to encode it with DivX preset (mencoder engine)?

  4. Well Major
With the mencoder the problem is the size and the DV format... With Mpjpeg A (bigger than DV) the problem disappear..
    RIGHT?
    Thank you

  5. Hello Major,
I followed your instructions for converting my iMovie 3 project into MJPEG A with max quality and uncompressed audion; but everytime I use this file with the fast DivX preset, I get in the Terminal a message telling me "segmentation fault at ..."
When I try to encoded with mencoder, I only get 2-3 fps at best, when using XVID, if I use mencoder DivX, the ball just spins but I don't get the window to choose the bitrate.
Wanna get a 704x576 with 2500 kbps and 192 kbps mp3 48 kHz CBR, all filters on and 4 motion vectors and two-pass.
Can you tell me how to make it work with the ffmpeg engine???
    Thanks for the great software.
