Im just fixing some old box for my niece, and after I installed Asus PC Probe it is beeping alarms very often because CPU's temperature reaches high levels. I installed Hardware Sensors Monitor and it does the same thing, obviously it must be true then.
It goes from 30C to 85C within a second, then it drops down to 30C in next second, and again and again. Is it normal for Pentium II .4GHz (400MHz ) CPU to have such constant temperature jumps whenever it is working? It is not o/c'd or anything.
    TIA

  2. I would have to say 'no' on that one. Are you running the original PC Probe or an updated version?

My recently-departed board was an A7V133. The PC Probe that came on the CD worked fine, but their latest update from asus.com was problematic. It would constantly report fans running 0 RPM.

Are you sure ? a 55C drop in temp in a sec seems a bit weird, but I'm no expert

  6. Your drop in temp is a faulty reading. There is no way that is possible without some super heavy duty cooling system with a liquid nitrogen tank.

And BTW, my 350MHz computer overheats regularly also.

yup, it must have been some faulty reading. I uninstalled both pcprobe and hmonitor and its all quiet now

  8. Just think of the thermal stress on the CPU die of temperature fluctuations of that speed! Apart from being impossible.....
