  1. I am wondering which software could help to solve the following problem: I want to transfer NTSC videos from VHS tapes onto the computer. I live in the UK, therefore have a Pal VHS, however, this can playback NTSC cassettes. The Videorecorder is LG LV710.

As an interface I use Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge, which is registered in Windows XP as "AVC Compliant DV Tape Recorder/Player".

I can capture the footage with Nero Vision Express, but the picture is black and white rather than color. Obviously this has to do with certain limitations of the setup. I am not sure which ones.

I have seen something about IUVcr and DScaler, but cannot get either of these freeware packages to run. Does anybody have experience?

i have the same prob NTSC 3.58 VHS via a PAL 60 (=NTSC 4.43) videorecorder caputered by a Fast dazzle dv now av card.

i dont know your card, but i think dscaler works only with cards who has a tv tuner on it. --> TV cards

i guess you know that your videorecorder send a PAL 60 signal instead of a true NTSC signal. and there is the problem. capture cards dont support PAL 60.

Dscaler can handle PAL 60, it tweaks the driver of a TV card with a TV tuner on it ... so you can capture PAL 60 via virtualdub or whatever. i tried it out ( i have a Hauppauge TV card too) but for my opinion the results are not reasonable at all.

the only solution is (in my eyes) to use a hardware standart converter

    but damn expensive.

or cheaper ... to buy a videorecorder who send a true NTSC 3.58 signal and not PAL 60 (NTSC 4.43) .... AND your capture card should be able to handle NTSC (my dazzle can handle both, pal and ntsc ...so maybe your card can it too)

then you have the NTSC video on your PC and there you can convert it in whatever format you want etc.
