Hiya!
Very new to all this so I apologise if this is in the wrong section or if I am asking for something I shouldn't in this forum. I cant find codes anywhere to allow my Sony DAV-5300 to play discs from all regions. Can anybody help? I looked on this site but only found a link to a web site which had a strange language or text code which I didn't understand! Also is there a way of enabling this machine to play VCDs???
Many thanks for any help or advice that is posted!

Sony players need chipping - always have, and probably always will. They have too much investment in both the licensing and movie industry to start knocking out players with firmware or handset hacks, I suspect. There are numerous places that will chip the player, but not many who offer a "diy" service - expect it to be costly (it would probably have been much cheaper to buy one pre-modded from somewhere like http://www.techtronics.com/uk/shop/00-index.html).
AFAIK it will play VideoCD's OK, but might be a bit fussy about the brand of media you use. CD-RW's usually work perfectly. -
Thanks very much for replying anyway. Think I will just invest in a new player. Cheers for your advice and time!

The Ronin 215 is a good, region free player for the price - plays everything I've thrown at it too.
For less than £50 you can't go wrong: http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk
