I am new to DVD burning since Thanksgiving. I have only burned several DVDs from my home movies shot on Sony TRV22 miniDV and transferred to my comp via Firewire. I am using Roxio Easy Creator 6 Plat Suite. I had burned several 30 mins worth of video recently and the Encoding process went much quicker with those. Right now I am burning another of my daughters dance recital videos and so far the encoding is at 26hrs at 1.2fps. I am using WinXP with 1gig crucial mem and 1.47 XP Athlon on a MSI Nforce2 MB. I dont think there is anything running in the background so I dont understand why the encoding is at only 1.2fps. I did update the DVD Builder last week so maybe the update is the problem. Is there any better freeware out there that I can use to capture, encode, burn to DVD? Thanks for any help or advice you can give me. Oh Roxio says the estimated size of the video I am encoding is 3.88GB if that helps...original DV tape was prob 1hr and 20mins of footage.

Unfortunately, there's not freeware "all in one" apps available with features similar to what you are using. But, you might look at this guide which uses a combination of several freeware programs: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/120013.php

No question that something is amiss with your roxio app insofar as the very long encoding rate/time you are seeing.

If you don't get more help here, suggest you go to roxio's forum and post there.

Thanks...it finally finished after 28hrs of encoding...quality looks excellent to the original tape but still something has got to be wrong with the encoding speed so I will look into that more. I just wanted a basic all in one program to get started and make some DVDs. I plan to purchase new comp Intel P4 3.0 sata drives loaded yada yada for video only processing later. I also plan to move past Roxio soon too thanks to all the info here...I just need to read more first and test things. Love these forums! Thanks.
