  1. I have made a few dvdr and need others opinion.
Where do you draw the line when it comes to quality from avi, divx atc. I mean some files u got has so low resolution, that after converting it's terrible when u play it on your home DVD/TV system.

I get best performance when i have one avi in 640x272 i think, and ofcourse if i have the audio in 448kbit/s i got DD5.1 in the DVDR.

But need to know when it's no use to make a DVDR cause the bad quality in the avi/divx etc...

Only you can make that decision.

For lower quality material, I encode at either 352*480 (576 for PAL) whicch is 1/2 D1, or mpeg-1 CBR 352*240 (288 for pal), which is VCD resolution. Using a lower resolution allows you to get away with lower bitrates and still get the same (or similiar) quality as the source file. This way I can put several lower quality movies on one DVDr, so not wasting a disk but still having the convenience of watching it on my home TV system.

    Your actually over the line.

For a typical 2 hour movie:
    700 MB AVI's are good for VCD's
1400 MB AVI's are okay for 1/2D1 DVD or SVCD(usually have AC5.1 sound, but have too low a bitrate to do so)
2100 MB AVI's are good for DVD (usually 2 1/1 hours plus AC5.1 Audio)

NOne of the above actually exist in the public domain (every public domain I've found are VCD resolution and around 400-600 MB).

  5. I think this is good quality...
One movie in avi 2x750MB, each is 640x272 with 448kbit/s 5ch.
The output is very good when i have the mpeg and author and burn it as an DVDR.

So I am way over the line here when it comes to bringing home media from the net I think...
