3.1 a definate improvement. When DVD Shrink is doing it's thing, the rate is about 1900-2000 K/Bs. Reading directly from DVD. Why can't get it go any higher? DVDecypter, DVD2one or any other ripping software I use will rip between 6000-7000K/Bs, yet DVDShrink is only processing at about 1900. What's your rate?

You have to remember that DVDShrink is doing both ripping and Transcoding at the same time.
DVD Decrypter only rips
DVD2one needs another program to process from DVd Drive,,,so it doesn't do the Decrypting. Plus DVDShrink gives better quality -
4,838KB/sec when doing deep analysis from Lite-ON DVD-ROM.

Remember if you trying to do it from your DVD-burner that restricts CSS ripping to 2X then your in for the long haul regardless.
4,994KB/sec when encoding

mrbass,
Out of Curiosity.... I know you like to do movie only. Can You see what kind of KBS you get doing full dvd9 I get about 2,900-3,000? -
OK I just did a test of Das Boot(DVD-10,side A=4,747MB) to answer the perverbial question "should I rip first or just use DVDShrink?":
Using only DVDShrink 3.1@100% compression the total time to analyze and transcode was 36 minutes.
Using DVDDecrypter(3.1.6.0)to rip and DVDShrink 3.1 to analyze and transcode, total time was 21 minutes.
To see my setup look at my computer specs. above.
BTW..I was averaging 4,000KB/s. -
MOVIEGEEK,
Just to clarify, your total rip time + transcode time using Decrypter, then Shrink was 21min?? If so, how the heck did you manage that?! Did you rip in ISO mode with Decrypter? -

Your speed may vary due to PC variables(DVD-ROM,CPU,chipset,etc). -
DVDShrink rips and transcodes at the same time. Also, the higher the compression rate, the longer it's going to take. It would be interesting to do the following test for a fair comparison in ripping speed. Set compression to no compression (100%) and run it. It would then just rip and won't transcode. Compare your results with Decrytor. Please let us know your results.

It's just that DVD Shrink take 3 times longer to rip and process than when I use DVD2one (I use together with DVD43 so it can rip and transcode on the fly). If DVD2one takes 20 minutes to run on a certain DVD, DVD Shrink will take an hour which is a little hard on the drive. Can someone tell me why DVD Shrink is supposedly better in the quality department over DVD2one and what I should look for in the video to see a difference. I guess I'm looking for a reason to switch but haven't found it yet. It's nice that DVD Shrink is now a once click program but on most DVDs it will take 50-60 minutes to proccess (of course depending compression) and 15 minutes to burn. DVD2one rarely takes over 25 minutes. I can have everything done in 35-40 minutes with DVD2one, or an hour and 15 minutes with DVD Shrink. So why should I use DVD Shrink? Someone please prove to me why it's better. IF DVD Shrink does improve Video quality than I have no problem with the extra time. I just need to see the difference with my own eyes. Thanks.

@Timster,
Check out this article comparing different transcoders, they use DVDShrink 2.3 but it might answer your question:

Thanks Moviegeek. I've read that article before. Doesn't seem to be much of a difference. I don't think you can really do comparisons using still shots, imo.

Hi all.
Timster, have you tried v3.1?
Its processing speed has been increased.
Mind you, how much faster it will be depends a lot on your system specs.
Also, v3.2 is being released tomorrow, so you might want to wait a few hours.
