the other day i was at my friends house and i was testing out a vcd, when i noticed on his dvd menu, it had a selection called divx. he told me about how it worked and that you plugged your dvd player into the phone line and put your divx cd in the drive. YES THERE WAS AN ACTUAL CD THAT YOU COULD RENT AND PUT IN THE DRIVe. then you would dial up or whatever and the cd would work for about 3 days, sorta like a rental fee. after that the cd wouldn't work anymore. so what i am thinking is that the only reason the cd worked was because of what the company did through the phone line...which has to be simply enuff for them to activate it through a phone line. i'm no electonics genius, but couldn't someone out there who is just zap the same thing that the company does to make divx work? just a inquiry..maybe i'm right..which i probably am. oh well.

divx (circuit city) is a dead format, the only place you will find hacks or other things for it is in divx forums.
i was reading about this a few months ago, as of then, nothing had come about it. it was a little bit before the divx service was going to be shut down.

The dead "DIVX" format was a rental system.
The current "DivX" format is completely separate -- the name being a jibe at the older format.
