I'm just about to purchase a dvd recorder.
one question that might cause problems is this:
If i'm watching say MTV on Sky Digital and I want to record a movie on say Sky Movies 3, will I be able to do this or can you only record on the channel which you are watching?
cheers in advance on this one!

Let me put it this way. Think of DVD Recorder as additional TV.
Are you able to do what you need with 2 TV's ? Watching one chanel on first and another on second ? If yes, then answer is yes. If no, then answer is no. Got it ?Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
mmm...
it's possible to do record different channels (bbc1 to channel 5 in the UK) on a VCR but i'm not sure about sky digital.

I can tell you now that it's not possible to record one channel while watching another on a standard sky digital setup.
In fact it's never been possible since sky first came out back in '89 and it has been annoying the hell out of me ever since
The only way to do it is to get a second box & subscription for your recorder.RealaT Bytes, but that's what life is. -

In answer to the original question, no you can't record one sky Digital Channel while viewing another. The only way to do this would be to get a second subscription and second reciever. Not really practical. Even if DVD Recorders had satellite tuners built in to them, you still wouldn't be able to de-scramble the picture as Sky use a totally closed scrambling system.

They do a deal on a second subscription and box but is it really worth aying an extra subscription for one or two recordings a month.

Or get Sky+ - then you can record one programme (on the hard disk in the box) while watching another, and then play it back at another time for the benefit of the DVD Recorder.
