    Good Morning Yall!
First, I'd like to say that this site has got to be the best DVD/Video Editing Site out there! Here is my question. I would like to buy a new computer to Capture, Edit and Burn DVD's. (Mostly convert VHS to DVD.) Here is what I would like to buy first...

    MEMORY
    (2x) DDR400 PC3200 512Mb AZEN RAM
    HARD DRIVE
    (2x) 120GB Western Digital 8 Mb cache, 7200 rpm
    PROCESSOR
    Intel Pentium 4 2.8C GHZ 512k 800FSB S478 (HT)
    MOTHERBOARD
    ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
    BURNER
Already have LG 2x Write Internal
    BOX
    Doesn't Matter
    CAPTURE DEVICES
(Currently Have) ADS USB 2.0 Instant DVD
    (Will have guaranteed!) Canopus ADVC-100

My biggest question would be what kind of video card would I need in order to transfer my VHS to DVD. I only have a piuny 32 MB Geforce1 and was wondering what kind of video card I need for it not to be the bottleneck or at least be very good graphic wise..

Please post your ideas...sugestions! All is appreciated!
Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a gift and not giving it.

    Hi,

As for memory, 1 GB seems a waste, since under no condition I have experienced more than about 300 MB are used, so, 500 MB should do.

As for Video Graphic Card, once you have a capture card, it seems to me that whatever Graphic Card you may have will make no difference.

The Graphic Card I have, Leadtek A310 TD Vivo is an excellent Graphic Card which enables also MPEG2 Realtime Capture. Yet, having a capture card that works fine for you, I wouldn't spend a cent on upgrading Graphics Card. Buy some Media instead ...

    Rkermit,

I used to use AZEN RAM memory (3x256MB PC133). Never a problem.

For video work, a 32MB video card is plenty as it's not very demanding (video is 2D). I used a GeForce2 32MB myself. A new card might help if you plan to do a lot of 3D rendering (but I'm not sure) or if you want to run a higher resolution (I like to run at 1600x1200@85Hz for video work to see more palettes and menus.)

For capture, since you will be using a ADVC100, do not forget a firewire card and you will not need anything else (unless it's already on your mobo)

  5. I have the ASUS P4P800 Deluxe motherboard and never had a problem. I use DDRAM 1GB TWINX1024-3200C2 COR RT from newegg. Its a twin pack from Corsair. I also upgraded my power suppy to POWER SUPPLY ANTEC TRUE430 ATX RTL and added an extra fan. You may want to get a new case rated for the P4 if your case doesn't have adequate cooling.
