321 Studios announces new product and claim 5 DVD quality movies on 1 DVD when viewed on a 27 inch TV... Personally I think that is a little overly ambitious.

    "DVD X VAULT

DVD X VAULT is the software for anyone who wants to take their movie collection on the road, but doesn’t want to pack all of those DVDs! DVD X VAULT uses “super-compression” technology to store your DVD movies on your computer hard drive – an 80-gigabyte hard drive can store dozens of movies. This same super-compression technology then allows you to burn up to five movies on one DVD, without compromising the quality of the picture if played on standard NTSC TV screens up to 27 inches.

“We envision our customers using DVD X VAULT to store enough mvies to keep the entire family happy on a long car trip or plane ride – the compression looks great on SUV entertainment centers and portable DVD players,” Moore continued. “Imagine being able to carry that many hours of entertainment on one DVD, while leaving your expensive collection safe at home!”

  2. There not tell the truth. This is what I think there doing there encoding to 352*480 at a low bitrate or 352*240 and very short movie's 1 1/2> Big studio can not do this at 720*480 then 321 I bet can not do it.

Not saying the post is incorrect but you can't help but wonder if they are talking about converting to something like SVCD quality which would probably look OK on a prtable DVD Player.

    Very suss to me !
    If in doubt, Google it.

.....We envision our customers ...........as total idiots. And with our poor imitation of other peoples programs ,we are more than happy to take their money
That's what it should have read.

5 movies on 4.38Gb - really ! Do the math people. What about one movie on 1 CD ( aka DivX .)

They are probably using MPEG 4.

I just did some playing around with NERO's New Nero Digital.

4 DVD's to a single dvd--Quality was pretty good on the Computer.

LOTR on a CD, again quality was pretty good.

I think the DVD Player industry is going to add MPEG 4 to the Capabilities of the new players.

Next question I have to NERO is if they are going to have a Player I can install on my computers that I don't install NERO on so I can play them.

But that does no good for the millions who have players that right now are incapable of playing mpeg4. I don't see many people rushing out to buy an expensive top of the line DVD player w/ mpeg4 capabilities just so they can use this software and pack 5 movies on a disk.

To me, this is a stretching of the truth and attempt to get over on the uninformed. Like mentioned before it has to be 352x480, at SVCD bitrates, and a movie less than 90 mins, to come close to this ideal. Thats why the are pumping it to the "up to 27 in" and "portable DVD" market....because if one puts this type of disk on their HDTV, they will be severely disappointed.

whompus: You must be a fly on the wall here!

As a matter of insider secret, we are going to be releasing a new app called DVD X VAULT. This thing will allow you to put up to 8 FULL LENGTH DVD Movies on a single blank DVDR with almost no loss in video quality. In addition, it includes full menuing capabilities and a few extra surprises.

It's based on a new compression algorithm we developed in house, and it is simply amazing. Already, we've been talking about making this a household appliance, much like a PVR that would act as a DVD JUKEBOK for your entire collection.

    Look for X VAULT SOON!

    Cheers!

8 movies * 100 minutes = 800 minutes = 631 kbit/s video with 128 kbit/s audio on one DVDR.......hmmm.......probably doesn't dvdxcopy sell as much as before so they must come up with something new. .

I just assumed that buy 27" TV they mean a broken 27" TV that will not turn on. If you adopt this logic you realize that the potential has been there for ANYONE to release this glorious product.

  11. I real think there doing 352*480 NTSC or 352*576 PAL really do not think there doing DIVX all most all DVD player will not play MPEG 4. And alot of people that buy 321 product's realy do not know MPEG stuff. there just people shopping at COMUSA or BESTBUY.

Its obviously not divx they are using since they are talking about hardware playback. I doubt many people have mpeg4 capable dvd players in their car.

The fact that they say that the quality is only "dvd quality" when viewed on 27 inch or less sized screens makes it obvious that this is simply their own encoder tweaked for low res and low bitrate. This is certainly nothing new, its just alot of people with little experience with dvd backups will try it out and find the quality acceptable and feel they have made a good purchase when they could have achieved the same quality, or actually probably much better, using freeware tools. This seem to be a trend with 321 studios.

It's the same thing Microsoft claimed for WMV9. 90 Minutes for the Movie and 800 MB. Do the math from there.

M$ considers 64kbps DVD quality. For portible use I suppose you can go 2 channel isntead of 5.1 .

The also consider 352x240 progressive 'DVD Quality' and it's VFR (variable frame rate). VFR can really cut down on file size for certain movies.

DVD quality WMV9's and RM and DivX all are about the same, 2 GB for a 2 hour movie. Since they are all MPEG4 codecs, that stands to reason? By DVD quality I mean zero pixelization or background crawl. TomsHardware has done these tests several times.

  17. I can take VCD quality .mpg files and author to one DVD to give about 8 hours worth of movies that all my players recognize as a DVD. The quality is just VCD though - 352X240/1150kbps. Maybe that is acceptable on the portable players and RV equipment referred to in the ad?

What a bunch of garbage! IF your gonna spend money on a dvd burner, blank discs why would you then revert to VCD quality????

chalk it up at another product for the uninformed masses.
