  1. I have had my NEC 1300A writer 3 months now and have exclusively used the Bulkpaq Orange (4x speed) for my writing - even though it only writes to these particular discs at 2x. My NEC writer firmware was version 7, I upgraded this to version 8 about 2 months ago, no problems at all. Have burned about 150 DVDs without a single coaster.

Then I had to be stupid!!!! I went to Herries site and upgraded my firmware to his hacked version, 108v2. It flashed fine but now the NEC comes up with a write error half way through the recording, every single time. 8 coasters with Bulkpaq Orange discs when I last checked. (Writing with Nero 6.0, as always)

I do not know what to do? It seems that the firmware upgrade has stuffed things. I am able to write to Imation 2.4x DVD+RW, no problem. But not Bulkpaq DVD-R Orange.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Is it Nero or my NEC writer? Do I go back to my old NEC 1300a firmware? Can I go back? Or will this create even more problems. Desperate.

  3. Thanks....I take it from your reply that it is safe for me to do this? To go back on firmware? The only reason I haven't already done this is that I am concerned it may end up with my writer being binned.

The order of firmware updates doesn't matter - The drive doesn't keep track of what is the latest version. Updating firmware is always a potential risk, but...
First thing I did when I had installed my NEC 1300A was to upgrade from factory 1.07 to 1.08. The update stopped half way, and I thought I'd fried it, but a second try after reboot proved successful. 1.08 to 1.09 a week later went smooth.
