Anyone who has seen my posts here lately, will realize they are mostly about keeping quality of the VOB files I'm working with (and I'm a newbie). From my limited knowledge I'm starting to believe I have to demux the VOB files in order to do some editing to them. My question is, if I do this, and edit the mpeg stream, then turn the streams back to a VOB file, do I lose quality?
Does demuxing in itself cause quality lose? I wouldn't think so, just because all you're doing is compiling all the streams back into a VOB...but I'm not sure. What about sync problems?

Absolutely not!!!! However, it is not recommended to edit video in mpeg format. You should convert to AVI then edit. After editing re-convert back to mpeg. This is where you will loose quality not from demuxing.

I wanna thank you for your reply.
I do have a follow up question also. The only editing that I want to do is a fade in & fade out of the video (don't know if I have to bother with the audio yet). From what I have read, I thought I could fade in/out with the mpeg stream. I'd hate to convert to avi & lose quality...actually, I won't bother with the editing if this is the case. Secondly, can I add blank black frames to the stream without converting it? (that would work in place of the fade in/out for me).
Thanks again.
