  1. I read this commant at the DVD player list about the Sony DVP-S725D:

    I've found a way to play SVCD videos in my Sony. Using TMPGEnc, I 'demux' the video (*.m2v). Then 'mux' again, but choose the option "Non Standard VCD" (instead of MPEG-2).
    Burn the resulting mpg with Nero 5.x as VCD (non standard, again).
    Sony DVP-S725D will play it perfectly, with mpeg2 quality.
    For CD-R I use Princo and for CD-RW any brand is ok.

    Did some one else try this, and what was the result ?
    I tried many times but did not work on my Sony dvp s725D player.

  2. Yes, i tried it, but i've changed the method.

    1. Open TMPGenc MPeg Tools->Simple Multiplex->
    Browse your mpeg2 file and give a different name to the output
    2. Type: MPEG-1 Video CD. Yes this is standard Video CD, because the non-standard Video CD out of lip sync.
    3. Run -> finally I got a warning: "3987 s packets ..."
    Then I was not able to play this file on the PC, but I burnt with the Nero 5.5.2.3 as a non-standard VCD and my Sony DVP-S725D played it. The quality is better than the MPEG-1.

    I hope this helped.

  3. Thanks cornelius for the information.

    In the meantime i succeed to make a SVCD with the method off Sahel, the first poster, that plays on my Sony 725
    But i allso have the problem off out of lip sync.
    Haven't tried your method yet.
    The one thing i'm not sure off is that the Mpeg you create with this methode is realy played on a dvd-player as an Mpeg 2 video.

    The reason why i'm questining this method is that if i make a XVCD with a video bit rate of 2500Kb/s, the size of this Mpeg is much bigger then the Mpeg of the SVCD.
    Is this normal ???

  4. Yes, I think so. But I never cared about this.
    My purpose was to convert my homemade video to digital format. One casette is about 30 minutes long and I always could fit it on one CD with XVCD 2500 kbit/sec or SVCD 2400 kbit/sec.
    But the quality of MPEG-2 is much better than the MPEG-1's.

  5. What video bitrate do you use for the Mpeg2 file, that you de-multiplex, and later multiplex to MPEG-1 Video CD ?

    And what is the difference between Multiplex and Simple Multiplex ?

  6. I would have to ask first, did this work at SVCD resolution or did you have to change the resolution as well??...because at certian bitrates AND equal resolutions, the eye will not be able to tell the difference tween mpeg-1 & mpeg-2 video....because their compression algorithyms are basically the same...so in a sense, all you are doing is makeing a VCD.

  7. I'm busy comparing a XVCD (Pal) with a video bitrate of 2500 Kb/s and a resolution of 720x576, and a SVCD (Pal) with a video bitrate of 2600 Kb/s and a resolution of 480x576.
    But this SVCD is made with the methode that is explaint above, so it is kind of a semi mpeg 2 file.
    Normaly my Sony dvp 725 will not play SVCD
    I'm not realy sure by using this methode you realy create a mpeg 2 file
