Tmpgenc stopping at 99%!!!! Help!

Can someone please help me. EVERY TIME I use TMPGENC to convert an avi file to an mpeg1 or mpeg2 file, the conversion program crashes when the file is 99% complete!!

Any idea why this happens? I get this problem regardless of the .avi file i am trying to convert.

I have seen TMPGEnc "hang" at 99% also. The mpg file was actually OK (complete) when this happened to me. I would suggest trying the file regardless of what the screen tells you - It may be just fine.

Hi..I am also having the SAME problem!! I try to use the program with an avi..and it stops at 99% and says that there is an error in the audio..so I tried to use the audio as a wave file instead of an avi...and it did the same thing! what could be doing this?? Thanks for anyone's help in this matter!!

Thanks for the info....unfortunately, I dont remember exactly what error message (if any) tmpgenc gives (I'll rerun it tonite to see). I used the resulting mpeg once successfully, however, my next two attempts failed. Anybody suggest any other ways of getting around this?

Here's what I do to get around that error. First get the tooLame MPEG2 Audio Encoder add-on for TMPGEnc. Load up your file, and set everything the way you want it, and then try the file. The first thing it does now it attempt to process your audio by making a temporal wave file. If this fails then you need to follow the next step. If it doesn't you should be ok.

If the tooLame encoder gives you an error then what I do to fix this is to load the file into VirtualDub and re-encode the file. I re-encode as a divx (2-pass) with audio encoding of mp3 (highest setting virtualdub displays). I then go thru the process of re-encoding. Once it's finished open the new file back up in TMPGEnc and try again.

I've never had this process fail yet, so hopefully it will work for you.

Also, is it pretty straightforward to re-encode a video in vDub? I have only used Vdub to edit (cut) .avi files.

try frameserving the file from vdub that should solve the problem....

I had this same problem that I posted a month or so ago.

Since then I upgraded to the latest 'J' version and the problem went away.

You can get the tooLame encoder here. (Hope my link to the site works I usually don't have much success with links in messages)

As for re-encoding it's really not that difficult, and there is a tutorial on the this site that explains how to do it. The only difficult part is the numbers to use (like the kbs, and what not. But there is a help included in vdub so you'll get it with no sweat.
