    Hello

First wanted to say how valuable this forum has been so far.

    My setup

AMD Duron 1GHz ( 893Mhx according to system information)
    256K RAM
Windows XP Professional ( just upgraded)
    Sony TRV-33 Camera
    WDC 20GB Drive
    ADC Pyro 1394 Card
    On Board Sound and Video

Software Ulead Video Studio SE Version 7.01

After reading many posts, I know that I need to get rid of the Duron, disable the On Board Sound and Video, install a separate 160GB dedicated video drive and probably go with a different AVI Capture Codec ( WinDV?)

The reality is that I dont have a spare $400 - 600 right now to buy a new motherboard, processor, disk etc Is there a better solution capture solution that can provide better quality with this setup. Or should I bite the bullet and wait until I can get a new computer?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

    Dave

You may have to bite the bullet but you don't have to get a different or separate capture codec. You already have a FireWire card, and together with your TRV33 and the capture/NLE programs that came with the ADSPyro that means the DV AVI codec is in your system and away you go.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

    Thanks for the info...

The card comes with Ulead 7 SE....I downloaded WinDV and it did a great job capturing ( 0 dropped frames) However, when I encode it in ulead, it is very fuzzy.

Any suggestions on an AVI to MPEG - 2 converter that runs on a slower processor?

    Thanks

    Dave

They all will run on a slower processor, they'll just take an awfully long time......
