  2. Why do you feel your video card is a weak link?

I just went a checked Device Manager and sure enough that is what I'm working with. Gforce 4 MX 440....

I don't play games so even this card is overkill for video work. IMHO

    Cheers

You video card is fine for video work. I use an older generation of your card- GeForce2 MX400 64MB - with no problem. Video editing work is not demanding since it is mostly 2D work which is easy for all current and many older cards. The only exception might be if you do a lot of 3D animation in your videos, but I'm not sure since I don't do any. Just run with what you have and if you see or experience something you don't like, post us back and we'll try to help as best we can.

Don't use Studio 8. Lots of problems with most users.
    Which card?

  5. Ok cool and thanks so far....
I want to upgrade my vid card anyway to at least a 128MDDR Nvidia for gaming and I know which one I will get THAT problem is solved.
    Back to Video...
So if Pinnacle (which I can return) is problem plagued what do you recommend that won't send me to the poor house?
I was considering a AIW 9600 PRO but it is way overkill for my needs.
So is there a decent solution, considering a good capture card and software???
I have done searches but everyones sitch is so electic I just need decent basic guidelines and thanks SO much do far!! Keep going!

The AIW is always my suggestion when you are open to both video and graphics cards. And then use the free ATI MMC that comes with the card. Great for capturing. Buy TMPGEnc DVD Author if you want a cheap authoring and editing (actually just splicing, not full editing) program. Cost maybe $50 for software that way. Rest is just the card price.

  7. Don't use Studio 8. Lots of problems with most users.
I'm one of the people who wasted a lot of time trying to get Studio 8 to work. I was amazed when I switched to other programs (Ulead Video Studio and Tmpgenc DVD Author) how productive I became. To be fair though I only need simple "cut here and there editing". If you want to do fancy stuff you may want to try Pinnacle Studio 8. Just output to avi and use other programs to author your DVD.

  8. Adobe Premiere Pro 7. That's all i've got to say about video editing on pc. A little more expensive then that other garbage but you can get the student version for about $150-$250. There is a great adobe premiere video forum. Im not sure if im allowed to put the link here. But look into premiere and if im allowed ill post the link.

    Edited section...
I forgot to mention Adobe DVD Encore. Great for DVD Authoring.

  9. If you can take back that Pinnacle card and you are planning on buying a good video card then combine all that money and get the best... ATI AIW 9800 PRO 128DDR. I'm running one and it's awsome... Check it out on the web. You won't be sorry.

    See ya

  10. Capture card will be a Pyro 1394....I have enough software to support it based on earlier comments my vid card was fine for vid edit....but had a prob spending $500+ for decent editing/gaming and wanted better gaming performance.
I have the latest Ulead product which worked but I needed a DVD burner to achieve the results I wanted.
I NOW Have the horsepower and the corrrect components to achieve with some tweaks.
    Thanks So Much!!!!!!!!!!!!
