  1. I've checked the tutorials but none address converting an entire DVD, it's geared mostly for MPEG & AVI (and a few more).

    I backed up "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and it happens to be PAL. My Apex will play it but my progressive scan Pioneer will not.

    Any suggestions on converting or making it work?

    DVD video IS MPEG.

    Rip The DVD, main movie only, to a .m2v and .ac3 file. Follow the guide you mentioned for converting mpeg from DVD to PAL to NTSC. You may need to change the length of the audio to match, not sure how you do that with Ac3 5.1, probably convert to multiple wav files, adjust each one in an audio editor and re-encode.

    Then re-author with the new video and audio files.

    You will lose all the menus and extras, but that gets the movie done.
