  1. [/b]i have had the nec nd1300a dvdr for 3 months,it burnt 4 disc's then started spitting out the disc's without even trying to burn them.
So i sent it back and they sent it back to me,saying it was dirty inside which i can not see how.
But i put it back in my system and tried again it burnt 1 disc and is now doing the same again.
I am using ritek printable 4x, which has ritek g04 dye.
Which is compatable with the nec nd1300a, can anyone help me please.

I have the nec 1300 and G04s burn just fine. The disc brand isn't your problem. I would try a CD/DVD lens cleaner disc and see if that helps.

Fill in your profile so we can see what kind of system you have. It helps in diagnosing problems.

  4. Ritek G04 are good disks but the NEC1300A doesn't burn them very well. I have a Pioneer 105 and that machine burns them much better compared to my other burner NEC1300A.
Please get the newest Firmware 1.09 from www.rpc1.org or from www.herrie.org and then try again. The writing strategy has improved with newer firmware but still is inferior to my Pioneer 105. You should probably consider to switch to +R discs if you can't solve your problem with the Ritek discs.

  5. my 1300a been good to me. Only things you might try would be to make sure you put your burner on master and that its on its own power cord.

then after that i would goto
    http://www.herrie.org

they have alot of hacked firmworks for our drive. Main reason i got it to start with. Try some of them out. some people have problems with v9 have to use v8 or v7 ect ect.

Good luck with your drive. also i would try some other media.

  8. Yes,

the NEC still doesn't handle the RitekG04 very well.

I have tested it with my Liteon DVD-ROM and the software KProbe.

NEC PI8SUM failures 500-700 at the beginning, then going down to 250 -300 . Average 185

    Pioneer 105 failures 40max., average 12!!!!

Spec says that the PI8Sum should not exceed 280.

These are no absolute numbers and depend also on the DVD-ROM or DVD-R used for the checks!!! But at least you get an impression about the difference how the Pio handles these discs vs. the NEC.

Try different media. The Ritek G04 are good but the NEC doesn't burn them well. BTW - made some tests with -RW (RitekW01) and TDK +RW (MCC A01) on the NEC and these PI8SUM numbers are good.

  10. Maybe your drive is in fact defective- but the media you mention is all crap and much worse than the Riteks. Get a decent one from Verbatim, Ricoh etc. I would suggest Plus-Media for now to be sure that it's the drive's fault.
Get also a laser lens cleaner and use it before those tests.
If it fails with good media after a lens clean - your drive is dead!

  12. Then it's not the drive's fault. The NEC doesn't like cheap media at all! And I told you that even with decent media it's borderline.

Get one or two brand -R disks (Verbatim, TDK, Maxell) and try them. If it works it's not the drive. If you want to go with cheap media - you got the wrong burner!!!! Get a Pioneer 106. Should be cheap now as Pioneer has phased out production and will introduce the 107.

  13. I forgot to mention that you can probably burn these cheap media discs at 2x speed instead of the default 4x. Please reduce the speed in you software for burning the DVD-R's to 2x.

Best DVD-R brand is Taiyo-Yuden. The FUJI 10-packs in stores like BEST BUY say MADE IN JAPAN and are Taiyo-Yuden 4x DVD-R discs with the FUJI brand name. The 10 pack goes for $24.99 at BEST BUY

Best blank DVD-R media PERIOD and it works well with my NEC ND-1300A so give those a try.

It is STILL doesn't work at least you can finally rule out the problem being MEDIA related.

have nec 1300a and working on third 100 spindle of princo 1x which burn at 2x but it will not reconize the princo 4x which work fine in my pioneer a105. Princo 1x is the cheapest media I can find and seems to burn well in my nec and only time will tell if they last (true of all the media at this time) All my media has been -r

I have the NEC 1300a and the only disks so far that it doesn't like are the ubiquitous Taiwanese Ricoh JPNR01's.

-R Sony's from Austria, -R Maxells from Japan, +R Verbatims out of Singapore all work well.

Going to try the TY Fuji's next, but the results I'm hearing about the Riteks are not encouraging.

I recently bought 4 10-packs of SONY DVD-R media on sale at STAPLES for $14.99 per 10-pack

2 of the 10 packs say MADE IN TAIWAN and 2 say MADE IN AUSTRIA

So far I've burned 10 of the MADE IN TAIWAN and about 5 of the MADE IN AUSTRIA and I've run the READ ERORR TEST from DVDInfoPro on EACH and EVERY one of them.

The results ---> ZERO Read Erorrs !!!

Sale over now so Taiyo-Yuden 4x FUJI for me (again) but I'm glad the SONY media wasn't crap. It is only 2x though.

You got a better price than I did on the Sony's. They were a holiday special at Walmart, 6 in jewel cases for $9.99. The ones I found were 1-4x though and all of them burned well at 4x. I ran the Nero CDSpeed file and surface scans on 3 of them with no errors (got lazy and didn't do the others), so they turned out to be pretty good disks.
