  1. hello,

i have a quick question: I edited a 5 minute video for dvd in final cut pro, then i exported with compressor. the final result is a audio track and a video track. i tried to multiplex them with ffmpeg but i didnt do the trick. i was like "ok..." and tried to burn the videos with toast. toast asks you for the audio track and says he multiplexes the video in ther process. i burnt the dvd and played it on my standalone player. those videos that had separated audio and video do not play.

is there a way i can export the audio and video together from final cut (with compressor)?

    thanks in advance!

No, Compressor and QT only export video and audio streams. You must then convert the audio to AC3 using A.pack, and then mux the m2v video stream and ac3 audio stream(s) into a MPG file, either using ffmpegX, Sizzle, DVD Studio Pro, or some other software, or Toast 6 should be able to convert them for you from the original streams in Video mode. Sizzle or DVD Studio Pro will give you more control, but Toast should work if set up correctly. Do you want to design menus, or do you want the app to generate generic menus for you? Do you want just straight video with no menus? Do you want control over the MPEG2 encoding to get a certain level of quality, or do you not care so much about video quality? Are you going for the easiest solution, or the best quality/presentation?
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  3. i want the best solution, i want to design my own menus and im thinking of using idvd3 for that, since dvd studio pro tends to be a little more complicated. so i must convert the audio to ac3 right? i didnt know that!

then all i have to do is join them with ffmpeg? maybe thats why ffmpeg wasnt joining the files, cause the audio was not ac3!

  4. I'm curious about your use of Compressor, rather than exporting the clip as DV, which would have kpet the video and audio together, and will easily work in any of the above mentioned applications. Do you feel you get better image quality using Compressor? Do you want more hands-on control? And doesn't iDVD's muxing do a compression scheme again/

When you're using Toast 6 (verion 6.0.3 is recommended) to make a DVD from output from Compressor, the video file and the audio file (and it can be an AIFF file) must have the same name and be in the same folder in order for Toast to multiplex the audio with the video. For example, if your video is named MYMOVIE.M2V, your audio must be named MYMOVIE.AIF, and both those files must be in the same folder. If you convert the AIFF file to Dolby Digital AC3, then that file must be named MYMOVIE.AC3.
