I have a dvd-recorder attached to the TV and use it to records various tv programs (DVD-RW). I then copy this onto the pc and using DVD Authoring software edit it, put chapters on it and create a front menu etc.
Generally I record the 5 or 6 eposides of a show over a couple a month or so and then create a DVD-R with menus etc and then reuse the DVD-RW when the series has finished.
The only way I know how to do this is to use a dvd ripper to copy onto the harddisk and then using TMPGENC to Convert from DIVX and then use Authoring tool. This takes hours (no days) to get each show in turn and then convert.
Is there a way of dragging each show striaght into a authoring tool then burning back to DVD-R without having to go through the process of converting from DIVX back to DVD (TMPGENC).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply I am using a Philips DVDR70.
I am trying to remember all the steps I went through, but I thought I converted it to DIVX. I have converted a number of files from DIVX to DVD-R so i was happy with how you do that and was not aware of any other way.
Steps:
Copy the VOB files to hard disk.
Use a ripping software (can not remeber which) to convert to DIVX.
recode using TMPGENC.
Use authoring software to put menu on etc and then burn back to a DVD-R.
I know it was very long winded. When really all I am after doing is putting a better front end menu, chapters, and editing the start / end and adverts of the shows. -
I think I now understand that there are better ways to converting from dvd to dvd. I have tried DVD Shrink and Nero Recoder, but both gives errors when trying to read a disk created by my philips DVDr70.
I have tried other dvd disks (created on PC) and they seem to work fine.
does anybody know either how to fix the problem or can recommend another program that will allow me to edit DVD+RW before copying to DVD-r.
Thanks -
OK....first off....DVDShrink HATES DVD's created with Philips machines...so that program is OUT in your case.(It IS the BEST for regular factory DVD's however).
Nero Recode was created by the same guy who made DVDShrink....explaination number 2...
Take a look at TMPGEnc DVD Author (free trial for 30 days) and the guides for it. I think you will like what it does.
Editing .vob's is not very easy...at least for me. I started using RW's in my Philips exclusively if I planned on re-DVDing the video. I added chapter markers on the RW...which made editing of commercials on the PC obsolete....since it SUCKS trying to do it that way.
Rip only the PCG's(with DVDDecrypter ) from the RW that did not contain commercials....then re-author with something like TMPGEnc DVD Author.
There are several work-arounds available for us folks who use Philips Recorders....finding the one that works best for you is the tough part.
I wish I could explain more but seem to forget the procedures I used unless the program is there in front of my face again.
Here is a good guide for us Philips owners:

fmb2000 - one thing, you shouldn't have to re-render your video as that somewhat defeats the benefit of the standalone...when you revise your procedure, see if you can do it w/ o re-render & you'll save a big step
