  5. i just got my pioneer 107(oem version) today from esbuy.com, seems to be working alot better then my liteon 451s. i have no 8x media to try so i can only write at 4x but its a very quiet drive. rips are a little slow, the max speed i saw on dvd decrypter was 9.2x. if you have any more questions ill try and answer them as best i can

Now THIS was really impressive. The NEC ND-2500A is simply the King of write quality, even when writing 4x discs at 8x speed. No other writers we have reviewed do even come close to this one in terms of writing quality. It gets a huge plus in our book for perfect writing quality, but on the other side it also gets a tiny minus for being slow at 8x writing compared to other 8x writers.

  7. Here's a quick comparison between the two based on available info:

    NEC ND-2500A:

Pros: cheap (around US$120) but excellent write quality on most DVD media even at 8X, can write 4X Taiyo Yuden, Mitsubishi Chemical and Pioneer manufactured DVD-R discs at 8X, also 8X for 4X Taiyo Yuden manufactured DVD+R discs, and 6X for 4X DVD+R with the MID code of RICOHJPNR01 discs.

Cons: slower 8X write speed compared to the competition, and no retail box only the OEM drives in the North America market.

    NEC ND-2500A Review

    Pioneer DVR-A07/107D:

Pros: very fast 8X write speed and also excellent write quality on DVD media, can read DVD-RAM discs at 2X.

Cons: no 8X writing on any 4X rated DVD media under current firmware version 1.05, more expensive than the NEC ND-2500A (AVILOGIC.com currently quotes $152+shipping for the OEM drive), also slower but still acceptable CD-R write speed at 24X.

  8. Okay, this is a little confusing. In some places, including the DVD writers section, it says that the pioneer drive writes at 40x CDR... this is true or what?
