All of the sudden my Pioneer DVR105 sounds like an F15 on the tarmac getting ready for take off. This happens randomly so I can not pin point it to a specific reason. The disk spins EXTREMELY fast when starting to burn and will not get past 1% of the burn phase. I can not shut off Nero, or open the disk door to stop the burn.
I also can not reset the computer I have to hold the power button and kill the system to get it to stop.
I have just started burning G04 instead of G03 but surly this can not be the problem (faster burn speed that is)
Think my burner may be playing out?!?!![]()

I've only burned prob 400-500 disks with it.
Any ideas

Sounds like you may be having laser calibration problems . It could be caused by the change in media . How long do you let Nero run before you try and shut it down ? If Nero is having a problem it will usually time out in a few minutes and give you an error code telling you what went wrong .
Keep it on the big cam ! -
I didn't let Nero run too long out of fear the burner might burn up it's self.
I've tired to burn @ 4x since this post but have been unable to even get a disk to start. If I reduce the burn speed to 2x it seems to run fine.
Getting stranger by the min. -
Problem may be is the compatibility of media with the burner try changing the media and check what speed it supports usually it is written on front side of blank disk in this form ... for example .. 48x.
or try replacing ur burner may be lens has passed its limit of burning or got weak if u use it for reading purposes . -

If in fact the burner is about to "belly up" then I'm disappointed in that as well. The Pioneer brand has been highly spoke of in these boards. I guess I should be asking what is the expected life span of a burner. I don't know that this question can be answered but is there number of uses you can expect to get from a unit before it shows wear?
A lot of people burn not only for personal back ups but as a business. Are they using the same commercial brand burners that most of us use or do they use a more industrial type burner? (I don't even know that there is such a thing) -
If the only thing you have changed is the media what would lead you to believe that the burner is going bad . Try a different brand of 4X media before you condemn your burner . Just because both disks are made by Ritek does not mean they will both be compatible with your burner .
Keep it on the big cam !
