  1. Does anybody know if I could:
    1) Capture on my PC HD recorded video from the EXPLORER8000HD
( I know that if will only be 720x480 16:9, but with a nice quality)
    2) Could the 1394 on the EXPLORER be used for capture on PC.
    This is very ambiguous.

HD is coming more and more, and if I buy a PVR it might as well be HD.

  2. Your posting in DVD recorder forum you should post in "Capturing" forum

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2

This is DVD set top forum

But I think I can help you there are three capture card's that are good for capturing MPEG 2 "ATI AIW" Only buy the Radeon model's Dazzle 2 capture card go to www.dazzlegeek.com to learn more. And Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350 and the 250 model.

Tip's use MPEG2VCR to to edit and TMPG authorizing software TMPG DVD author or ulead

1394 is only for AVI file's and you will need to encode to MPEG2 you can use TMPG to encode or CCE

  3. I think that question here is more like...

"Can I burn files that are on my set top HD recorder (PVR) to DVD to create DVD-Video ?"

I am not familiar with set top video recorders and I am not sure where this belongs

  4. "donpedro" Thanks I did not get it LOL. If he want to move the file's over from the PVR I think you have to do it over the network. Replay TV from what i hear is better for this type of thing. There is software to do this but I do not kow the site's try www.techtv.com then go to "Screen Saver's" they have talk about this. But one of the host Leo Laport said it's not worth it.

Yes this post should have been in capturing,
I made an error there, thie was my first post in this forum.

I want the best quality, and be more flexible, so I would like to capture in AVI, DVavi codec, via the 1394, my problem is getting the video from the PVR (8000HD) to the 1394 and keeping the 16:9 aspect.
I am doing it now from a sony DV VTR, with PREMIERE PRO and others, but in 4:3. and then authoring to a DVD. Also to get top quality MPG2 capture you need a capture card that as the harware compression. and it cost more $$$, Also it you manipulate the video afterward you will decompress and recompress and loose some quality.

The ATI is a good card, but it slows down your machine 20% or more. and installing all their software will screw up some codecs. I am quite shure on this.

    have a good day,
    pierre.
