I nearly have a result I am happy with. 85% quality. How do I get it any better? I capture with Video Studio, no frame loss. I edit by adding Music only then use TMPeng to transfer to MPEG2 using all the quality improvement filters. The result is still slightly grainy with white noise patches appearing now and again. How do I get to 100%, is it in the Capture or the Transfer?

  2. To be fair mate you are not really giving us very much to go on. What are you actually trying to do, what are you ending up with ie DVD, VCD etc.., what format are you capturing in ?

Good Point Mate.... : :o I am trying to copy Digital footage from My Sony PC8 Mini DV to SVCD format to play on my DVD Player. I want 100% quality (Might as well go for the best). I would get this if I used an analog mixing desk. So I have used Video Studio to D/L and TMPeng to Convert. The result is 75% possibably 85%, how can I improve. I am not a tech boy,an amateur the worst kind

Jack it up to 8k CBR or min 6k average VBR. That should suffice. MiniDV is very good with max 10% loss of quality comparing to best cams.
See what happens there. If you get some artifacting try a different encoder (even Studio 8 own) to compare. My movies from Sony PC1 are excellent after enc. to MPEG2 using above settings. I just finished an Atlantic yacht race with footage shot on VX 1000 enc. 8k CBR (as per request). DVD quality.

WARNING! 8k CBR is for DVD. I thought you're making a SVCD. Be sure to use CBR there too anyway. SVCD got maximum bitrate around 2,5k. Some DVD-players allow more to be used but it's not standard SVCD if you go beyond.

Thanks DVO I just spotted that myself. I have used CBR is there any other way of improving the quality levels :) SVCD is what I am producing.
