i dont know much about copying dvds and i dont have a dvd burner yet. i was just wondering if i would be able to copy dvds if i bought a dvd burner for this system:
500mhz
128mb ram
win2k
and does the ripping speed depend on my processor or the dvd drive speed? do i just rip the dvd then burn them or do i have to encode it like vcds?
i tried to look for answers to those questions but i didn't find much... sorry if i sound dumb

ripping is usually drive dependant.. naturally if your ripping speed exceeded more than your cpu could handle then it would matter. but a 500mhz should be sufficient up to 4x. ive seen it done first hand. i dont know what there recommendations are, but the a05 will do 4x with a 500mhz processor. i dont know about 8x though...
imo lite in dvd rom drives have the fastest ripping speeds -
Mate,
I rip, encode and burn all the time at work on a similar spec machine at work all the time. It's not the best spec, but you can definatly do it.
Like the previous poster said, ripping speed is fine, but if you need to transcode your DVDs, ie use DVShrink or DVD2ONE etc, these progs take about one- two hours compared to 20 - 4 min for a modern PC.
Happy ripping! -
thanks for the replies, one to two hours isn't that bad... it usually takes me longer to encode vcds

Hi
I have a similar spec pc and have a dvd burner but i have been having problems playing back the copied dvd's i do, i thought that the problem was that my pc was not good enough when i was burning so it did not have a smooth burn but you guys reckon it can be done.....might be another prob then -

If you can afford another stick of ram, this may help things a little.
