Just wanted to know why this peice of software is around $3,500.00. What is so special about it. I downloaded the Lite evaluation demo, but it just sits on the title screen, what am I suppose to do from there?

I believe you must drag a avi file into that screen. The lite version is about $250.00.

Did you try reading the instructions?

  4. It's 3500$ because it fills a niche that almost nothing else does. Most MPEG2 encoders are meant for very high bitrates, that is, DVD.

Most MPEG1 encoders are meant for very low bitrates, for this and that. VCD's and SVCD's are on the high end of the MPEG-1 spectrum and the low end of the MPEG-2 spectrum. CCE SP is one of the very, very few encoders specifically designed to provide good quality at such a low MPEG2 bitrate.

BTW, CCE Lite, IMHO, is utterly useless. It's not able do a high enough bitrate for SVCD, and if you're just doing MPEG-1, why do you need an expensive encoder?

You have to have CCE SP to do SVCD
