i just forced aspi and checked my hard drive,dma is on.I'm still getting 1-2 speed.

DMA is enabled on the HD, but is it enabled on for the DVD-ROM Drive.

I thought long about even helping you...but here,
Device Manager->IDE Controllers->(pick whichever channel you want or both)->Properties->Advanced Settings

thanks kid,i kept trying to find it under my dvd rom settings.now i'm having a problem with tmpge shutting down after like 25 min of encoding.one more question,should my hard drives be basic or dynamic?

whichever you prefer, but since you dont seem to familiar with W2K, go with basic.
