I've seen the whackiest thing on the movie "THE FIRM." The movie box says "widescreen" on it...but the VOBS ARE 4:3. Now that isn't the oddity. The oddity is that the .IFO file is actually 16:9!!
I've never seen this with ANY other movie. And doitfast4u and DVD2DVDR BOTH give INCORRECT aspect ratios. They BOTH show 16:9..which isn't accurate. They are obviously reading the .IFO file. But DVD2SVCD DOES give the correct aspect ratio. It shows that it is "4:3" and will be encoded as 4:3 with no borders added. I thought DVD2SVCD just scanned the .IFO files aspect ratio..but apparently not.
Anyway, i've seen my fair share of movies that are those "phony" widescreens such as Titanic...where the VOBS AND IFO are 4:3..but the movie is listed as "WIDESCREEN." But i've never seen or even read or heard of a movie that has a vob set that is 4:3 while the .IFO file is 16:9 letterbox. The movie does appear non-stretched and looks like the 1:85:1 variety...but I still think this is pretty odd.
Has anyone else seen a movie structured like this? If so, why is this done? It seems like a pretty shady way to make a movie widescreen. I can make any of my actual full screen movies 1:85:1 "apparent" by changing the .IFO file to 16:9 letterbox..so this seems pretty damn shady.
