  1. It is known for some media to not handle burning past 4GB onto a recordable DVDR. What burning apps are you people using that causes this? Are you getting any error messages from the burn software that this is happening?

Using Ulead DMF2 I don't get any error messages, but the disc ends up glitchy towards the end. However, using CopytoDVD sometimes I get power calibration errors (the program still contines to burn the disc). I've only had little success with CopytoDVD as it seems to reject "seemingly" bad media, anything that burns through it without errors works fine and that is very rare.

Also, can anyone explain why this happens... When I burn a bad disc through CopytoDVD, the write side of the media seems like the write portion fades gradually going towards the outermost part of the disc. It's as if the laser gradually drops temperature very slowly but 'tries' to continue writing anyways. I've never used any other burn program that did this...

  2. You are "on" Windows XP's NTFS file system ? Win98 uses FAT32...
    which has file size limitations....
    Thanks,

Its the actual disc itself that causes this . Some cheap discs have very poor quality near the outer edge and this is what causes the problem . I dont buy cheap media for this reason . If the capacity is 4.36 Gigs thats how much I expect it to hold . Saying that brand X media is okay as long as you dont go past 4 Gigs is bull . Its bad media and you should not have to compensate for it .
Keep it on the big cam !
