Perhaps it's a silly question, but I am curious so I'll ask it: I just bought a Pioneer DVR-106D (same as the A06): 4x with +/- and firmware 1.07 (the latest one, I think). There's a chance that with a new firmware update in the future, writing speed can reach 8x ? Are there some hardware limitations that don't allow this ? Thanks for answers !

Both the NEC ND-2500A and Pioneer A07 will be using a newly designed chipset for the 8X writing, so no firmware upgrade is possible for their current 4X dual format burners:
