Hey, something is strange on my machine. Before, virtual dub performed very well and I was able to compress DVD or captured material to divx fast, I can't remember the exact numbers, but maybe 15 fps or something. Now suddenly it's extremely slow, it compresses at the same settings and with the same filters with like 2-3 fps!

I've got an AMD XP 1800+ processor and I run Windows XP.

I tried the exact same conversion on my girlfriend's computer (XP2600+ I think) and it went with like 22 fps. It shouldn't be THAT big difference between the encoding time.

    Got any clues at all?

Between the 15 fps or so and the 2-3 fps or so, you did something to the PC. Probably installed codecs or something.

Have you installed a new version of DivX? If so, perhaps the default settings are different to the ones you had before and this makes the codec slower.

When you convert the captured material to DivX, what codec is the source AVI using? Is it the same with the one you used when you were getting 15fps? Some codecs are really very slow.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

Everything is exactly the same as before.
