  1. recently i got the lyra (portable mp3 and mpeg4 player)
however when i encode movies (example dogma, chasing amy)
the sound skips and is off sync with the video
the weird thing is that stuff like south park seems to work fine
im useing "dvd to vcd avi divx converter"
    which i purchased
but now the sound thing is f'ing up and i dont know what to use
i use the xvid mpeg-4 codec and ive tryed multiple others
no matter what i do i cant get it to work
i use dvd-decrypter to put it in .vob's and then to mpeg4 with
dvd to vcd avi divx converter
what codec should i use and is there any better software that will fit my needs

  2. I've had problem DVDs before too. I don't think I'm smart enought to list everything that might be going wrong, but I can offer a simple suggestion you might try.

Use DVD Decrypter and rip the main movie to HDD. It might be a good idea to choose to create 1 big vob file at this step.

Open that big vob file with TMPGenc (I like Plus V2.5), exit the Wizard then click 'File' - 'MPEG TOOLS' then the tab marked 'De-Multiplex'. Load your big vob file by clicking 'Input Browse' then "Type of file - All Files" then find that vob.

That vob file will have *1* video stream and maybe several audio streams in it. For simplicity we'll extract all the streams to a folder. Go examine the audio files in that folder and pick out the one you want to keep. The rest can be discarded.

Use TMPGenc, as above, but this time click the tab labeled 'Multiplex' and combine the video stream and your desired audio stream into an MPEG2 file. Test this file in your usual fashion. At this point it's a typical MPEG2 video file. (for the most part)

Try and convert this MPEG2 file to MPEG4 as you have been doing. May fix your problem.

    Good luck.
