  1. I have been converting AVI to DVD quite succesfully but I think it may be taking longer than it needs to be.
When I convert the AVI with TMPGEnc I then author it with TMPGEnc DVD Author. The first thing DVD Author does is convert it to a Video_TS and Audio_TS.
I seem to think that I could cut out this process if I were to somehow be able to this in the previous convertion (ie:TMPGEnc.....maybe ??).
    Thanks

TMPGEnc doesn't author DVD's it only encodes (i.e. MPEG 1 or 2). After you have an MPEG you then need to author a DVD with a program such as TMPGEnc DVD Author. This program will create the VIDEO_TS folder with the vob, ifo, and bup files that are neccessary for playback in you DVD player. I don't know of any program that will author a DVD with an AVI file, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

  3. FT Shark is right about TMPGEnc it only encodes to MPG2.

There are authoring programs that will encode and author such as MovieFactory2 and sonic Mydvd to name a couple. But they can be picky about what type of AVI file they will except and audio will trip you up a lot.

Ultimately you need to understand that you have to encode and author, these steps will take just as long if you use TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc DVD author or if you use MovieFactory2. With the TMPGEnc method you get considerably more control over the output.

    Hope this helps
