I captured a tv show with Lord Smurf's settings for ATI Capture - MPG2 format @ 352*480...which display a little odd in some playback apps - WMP for example - fine in a dvd player though...

There is a little noise @ the top of the video - 2 pixel rows worth...

Before I author a DVD with this show, should I remove the noise? I want to but am unsure as to whether or not it would appear on DVD playback anyway - it makes sense to eliminate it.

What is the best way to remove the noise (cropping a couple of lines from the top) without losing any quality in the vid? I suspect that TMPGenc is the way to go but am unsure as to the best setttings for such a project.

Could someone help me out with settings - or a quick tutorial? Much appreciated of course...

    hi skydigging,

At this point in time, you can not remove this, unless you are willing to
    re-encode the source again.

If you opt to re-encode, then you can through the use of filters in either
virtualdub or avisynth. But, that's if you want to go this route. Otherwise,
I would just leave it as it, and just author it to a DVD disk. You won't see
those anoying lines, because the tv's overscan will skew your viewing them :P

  3. You wont see it due to your TV's overscan.

If you really want to crop it there is a clip frame feature in tmpgenc. Not sure what you mean by help with settings just set the crop so the noise is removed.

    Thanks for the insights folks...

I tested it and you are right in that the overscan is not seen on the TV anyways...

However, that being said, if I wanted to eliminate the two rows of noise, I would use TMPGenc and make use of the Clip Frame setting I believe. What I am curious to know about is if there are any settings in TMPGenc that should be changed for the output mpg2 file...I don't want to do anything other than replace the two rows of noise with two rows of black...or eliminate all together. I suspect that if I clip the two rows, my original picture will be stretched ever so slightly?

Does this make any sense to anyone?

    Thanks again all,

    Sky!
