  1. Hi!

I recently bought the Pinnacle PCTV Pro TV-card. It's a newbie card, I know, but I'm a newbie at this so I thought I'd start at the bottom and work my way to the top.

Now, I want to record from my VCR (Sony) to my computer, but the problem is that my VCR doesn't have S-VHS, and there is a S-VHS input on the TV-card.

So how do I capture video from my VCR? What kinda cord do I need?

    Thanks for any help, guys!

If your VCR has a Video out plug, and an audio jack, you will need an RCA-style video cord, and an RCA-style audio cord. What connecctors does your VCR have for video and audio out?
    Hello.

Just use rca cables from your vcr video and audio out to your capture card`s video and audio composite inputs.

I agree with Tommyknocker, you will need an RCA cable. I just checked some pics of your card and correct me if I am wrong, but it has a yellow input plug to connect the video part of a RCA cable. That is all you will need.

  6. The Scart (Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs) connector is used for combined audio and video connections.
The connector is also known as Pertitel connector or Euroconnector.
A formal description is given in the CENELEC EN 50 049-1:1989 standard or in the IEC 933-1 standard.

On your way to the top, you may need to stop and pick up a new VCR. 8)

If your VCR has a SCART port, you will need a SCART adapter to connect to you card:

Looks to me with the proper SCART adapter, you can even run S-video to S-video.

Hehe, yeah. I actually sat down yesterday and thought: "Damn, I probably need a new VCR, with S-VHS." :P

So I'm probably gonna buy a new one.

Tommyknocker, thanks for the help, I'm gonna be scouting for a SCART like the one pictured.

If you find a VCR in the UK with a conventional s-video connector (the small, penny-sized type) let me know.
    I can't find one.
All the s-video VCR's I've found recently export the s-video signal via scart, and none have typical composite (yellow/video and audio/red and white).
I'd prefer a typical s-video connector or a composite output.

Unless your existing VCR has an s-video capability (and the author of this thread doesn't have) you can't run s-video to s-video bby simply using the adapter and an s-video cable, it'll come out B&W.
    Trust me, I've tested it.
