  1. Seems like a lot of clips on the web are in WMV but I prefer MPEG1 to save them onto CD so I can watch them on my DVD player. How is the quality of the converted files? I intend to use the Huffyuv codec to compress the files. Thanks.

i've used Stoik the few times I've needed to convert from wmv, and it has worked very well.

I'm a bit confused, though - the originals are in wmv, and you are going to convert to mpeg-1, where does Huffyuv come in?

  3. I thought Stoik converted to avi so I was thinking I had to use a compressor.

you should check TMPGenc first and see if it will read the .wmv file - if it will, you can convert directly to mpeg-1 without an intervening step.

if not, you're right, convert to a low-compression avi and then convert to mpeg-1.
