  1. Ya I searched and had a hard time. I was just wondering if someone could refresh my memory on how to manipulate the environmental settings in TMPGEnc, so that when i go to open a file I will be able to open .AVI files. Also is there anything else i need to do besides changing the environmental settings. I go to "file," "open project," and when I try to select an .avi file I get a error that says "illegal stream format." oh by the way i changed the priority of the direct show multimedia to 2 and its higher than everything else. can someone tell me where to go to find how to convert microsoft Dv to canopus reference Dv

also having troubles with my encoded files comming out a little jumping. Like the motion between frames isn't very smooth or flowing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go the the left menu, there are some guides and a list of tools that you can search.

    You need a DV codec.

If you can use tmpgenc, then how are you encoding your files. More info!!, what settings are you using? What type of files are you trying to create? DVD or VCD, SVCD?

  3. I'm using adobe after effects to create my microsoft DV files, i'm trying to encode them to dvd formatted files using tmpgenc. When i use the wizard it allows me to browse and choose my .avi files that way. But when I don't use the wizard and go to "file," "open project," I get an error that says illegal stream format. Further more, when I use the wizard my dvd formatted files come out shitty, The video is all jumpy, like i'm shaking the camera back and forth. When the motion is much smoother on a simple pan before I encode to dvd format.
I'm using all the default settings, except i changed the environmental settings

Don't use 'open project' to select your source files. At the bottom of the Tmpgenc window are areas for you to enter source file names for audio and video (they can be the same file), also one for the destination file. Each has a browse button.

Then clock 'load' to select a template. Then click settings if you want to change anything. If you want to come back and encode at a later date, then select 'file->save project. When you come back select file->open project to retrieve everything.

    Hope this helps.

Ar you sure the framerates used by After effects whn encoding the DV are the same as set up in TmpGenc.

Also, ensure you encode to mpeg-2 as interlaced, DV is bottom field first I believe.

    Yes, it is
Top field first A (A for anaolgue)
That's how I remember, 'A' for analogue therefore B for DV.

  10. What player application are you using to preview the movies? Make sure you use a proper Software DVD player like PowerDVD. I know that one has a built in de-interlacer so the movies should display exactly as they will appear on your TV. WMP does not do this, not sure about WinDVD, probably does but maybe someone else can confirm this.

  11. actually i think windows media 9 is capable of this, I've never had problems playing mpg-2 files before. I guess if I can't get this figured out it doesn't matter because I'm getting a dvd burner soon and I will probably get some new encoding software with it.

  12. mabey its because I need to run a defragmentation on my hard disk. Or mabey its because I used no proxies when I exported to movie using A.E.
