I have been using this DVD player for a long time and it played all my homemade PAL VCD's on my NTSC TV without any problem. Now I got a DVD writer and created a PAL DVD, but this unit is not playing that?? Any clues or ideas?
Thanks

Does the player support + or - DVD formats. What kind of recordable DVD did you use. How did you create and burn the recordable DVD.
Too many questions, too little info. -
Hello bugster:
Does the player support + or - DVD formats.
>>> This players supports both +R, -R and +RW and -RW formats
What kind of recordable DVD did you use.
>>> Sony +RW disk
How did you create and burn the recordable DVD.
>>> first captured analog video from PAL camcoder using ADSInstantDVD2.0 and then Used Ulead DVD movie factory for recording the DVD.
Player problem:
You can hear the audio well, but the video is black&white jumping, it is clear that the DVD player is not sending the NTSC information. It only wonders me how the DVD player is sending the NTSC signal, if I play the PAL VCD??
Bugster or anyone else, any clue on what could be the problem?? -

You could try setting your dvd player to ntsc. I have a pioneer dv-444 and I can do it by switching my player on with the >> button pressed. I can then set it to ntsc, pal or auto. Probably works the same way with a dv-343.

But I still wonder how the VCD in PAL works fine without any issues, but the DVD in PAL is creating the problem!!!>>>Any clues from experts???

VCD's are notoriously more forgiving in "non native" circumstances than DVD's. That is the best explaination I have for you....sorry. I can send any PAL VCD to my folks back home in the U.S. and they have no problem viewing them.

I am by no means an expert but just want to tell you my own experience. My dvd player is pioneer dv343 (labelled as US regional one/NTSC only). In a foreign visit I bought lots of VCDs and regional3 NTSC DVDs. My player has been playing these VCDs flawlessly but when playing the DVDs, there were no pictures (audio OK) but jumping/rolling lines. 2 weeks ago I bought a Jensen Q2749j TV to replace my old GE TV, suddenly I found now I can play most of the DVDs perfectly. However, 2 DVDs have become black/white (but no jumping/rolling at all just like perfect black/white movie although they are of color in computer). My research found that this unbelievably cheap TV ($199 for 27" pure flat) has PAL playback function! (see JensenTV.com)
I cannot explain:
1. Why the player can play regional 3 disks without hacking.
2. Why those NTSC disks need PAL playback function (Are they wrongly labelled?).
3. Why only for the two disks color movies become b/w movies. -
a friend of mine checked for me. my dvd player was connected to tv through a sharp brand vcr. he then connected the dvd player directly to the tv, every disk played flawlessly. no more b/w video. then we tried a region 6 pal dvd, a newly released chinese movie, perfect! no problem. although there are still things he cannot explain, practically, pioneer dv343 + jensen q2749j plays both ntsc and pal of perhaps every region.
