I've been looking for a couple of years for a program that will play DVD's at 24 frame per second for some time now. Does one exist? What I want to do is take a film DVD, insert it into the play and have the software play it back at 24FPS and the audio at 46080hz, and play as originally intended.

Whenever I ask on forums I seem to get a barrage of abuse from people saying I am mad for wanting to do this. I don't know why, there may be some conspiracy to get us in PAL countries to watch out films too quickly. But I have faith in the good people of the VideoHelp forum

If the software does not exist, is there a good place I can request for suc ha piece of software to be developed, like sourceforge etc.?

    Cheers folks!

    Rob,

I haven't seen any such software, maybe possible with an avisynth script but I'm not sure if it will sound that good with the realtime speed down.

Just buy NTSC releases if you don't want 24fps to 25FPS audio speed up. .

Ha ha, well thanks for the suggestion, but what i am looking for is playback of the Pal version at 24 fps. It should be really easy. Scaling the audio is the only potentially tricky bit. I can get it doing about 23 FPS just by changing my sound card's playback rate from 48,000hz to 44,100hz. But my sound card scales all the rates in hardware anyway.

It doesn't actually need to do much. Playing back at 24 FPS should be less work than playing back at 25. It might even be possible to hack it into existing software, or revise an open source project.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Rob,

You can do this with windvd. The option is called PAL TruSpeed.

Cheers for that! I'm not too sure about how it scales the audio but the video looks pretty cool!

Changing your audio card's sampling rate should NOT be doing this! That is just wrong. The sampling rate has NOTHING AT ALL to do with fps playback. You should not be depending on this as a solution for your problem.
You may be somehow getting the sound to appear closer to 24 fps by this change, but that has nothing to do with the frame rate at which the audio is being played.

I've read mixed reviews of TruSpeed. Maybe it will work for you.

Actually, the sound rate does have something to do with the sound rate as the video in most application will maintain sync by using the the audio crystal as a reference. Most video applications I use change the frame rate when I change the sample rate on the audio card.
