    I have a pioneer 106 and that's about the times I get.

i got the nec 1300a and yes, 14 minutes is normal at 4x burning. the ripping speeds of dvd writers has been covered in many threads, u'll be best off gettin a dvd-rom for ripping but u might be able to increase the speed with herries hacked firmware(which is wut i use).

    No, untrue.

I don't know why DVD burner manufacturers purpose limit reading speed. It was like that with CD burners for a long time too. I think it has something to do with the damn RIAA/MPAA, to be honest.

14 minutes is DAMN good wouldn't you say for a movie over an hour long at least? Wanna go back to "real time" with VHS tapes?

Try a lite-on DVD-rom, fast and cheap and less wear on your burner.
