  1. I have home movies already transferred to DVD+RW disks. On my PC's hard drive I want to delete some unwanted scenes, maybe have simple transitions between some scenes, add chapter marks, have a simple menu for navigation, and write back out to DVD+RW. And avoid or minimize encoding/re-encoding (not sure exactly what that means or its implications) -- or at least quality degradation. Will the following accomplish this?

    (1) Convert VTS files to MPEG2 files on the hard drive (e.g., using TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVD Decrypter).

    (2) Use MPEG2VCR to delete frame-accurate scenes (TMPGEnc DVD Author allows deletion only of Groups of Pictures or GOPs).

    (3) Use MPEG2VCR to add simple scene transitions (e.g., blending between two scenes that don't have a short blank stream between them).

    (4) Use MPEG2VCR to write out to the hard drive the edited MPEG2 file.

    (5) Use TMPGEnc to import the MPEG2 file and then add/delete chapter marks where I want them (I haven't seen that MPEG2VCR can do this).

    (6) Use TMPGEnc to create a simple menu for navigation (I haven't seen that MPEG2VCR can do this).

    (7) Use TMPGEnc to write back out the new VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD+RW.

    Any problems with this? Thanks.

I would say yes, use both. When cutting, I want it to be as accurate and precise as I want it. Use both. Looks like a good combiation to me.
