  1. yeah I almost killed over when I checked www.Newegg.com and seen the NEW ritek's G04 for $54.99 for 50 spindle ($109.98 for 100 spindle); and that price includes Free FedEx Saver!! These are the Unbranded, NON- printable disc's. These are the ones with the Ridata in the center hub, not the old crappy glossy ones that allmediaoutlet.com is still shipping, WHICH to me, look like cheap cd-r's!! I thought I would just drop a forum note to everyeone, because if you were like me paying $150-165 for 100spindle, you NEED to know this! And you dont have to worry its NEWEGG, need I say more about them??

  4. Buyer Beware......just like anything else. There were recently alot of Grade "C" Riteks that make it out. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if those were the Grade C G04's..and if so....you should be ok with 60% or so...but that's not a deal to me.

  5. FYI - Ordered the 50-pk Riteks for $54.99 from newegg Thursday - they arrived here on Monday. They are silver-topped (no writing). Normal Ritek codes as far as I and my coworker can tell (although I am new to the DVD writing scene).

  6. Hey Defense,
Before, we were concerned if the manufacturer code for the media is correct and DVDinfo Pro took care of the problem. Now the "Grade" thing is a problem. Is there any way (i.e. software) which shows the Grade which the media is made of? Thanks

  7. From the highly praised here, Rima.com, I just got some G04's for $112 + about $5 for shipping(i bought other things so it was less for me) Anyway, they seem to charge actual ship charges or less so that is nice.
i gone thru 10 all perfect. And the customer serviice has been excellent! they included the samples I needed and respond quickly to emails, and have and 800#.
I had been leary after being ripped off with fake media and poor packaing from Meritline, they are the worst.

  8. Wonder if I got one of those grade c g04s...I got a 25 pack of ritek g04s with the orange and black surface from pcclub for 20 bux...and it doesn't burn at 4x on my dru-510a
    Quote Quote
  9. @huy, that's odd because the DRU-510A seems to burn every piece of 4x media @4x. AT least that's been my experience. I've yet to find a piece of 4x media that WON'T burn @4x. Now the DRU-500A(X) was a different story. That drive has more problems burning media consistently at 4x. You probably got a lower grade Ritek disk..but I wouldn't worry as long as they burn fine.

Unfortunately, DVDINFO doesn't take care of knowing who manufactured media..because numerous companies are using another companies stamper persuant to their contractual agreement. I can give many examples...but they've been stated many times. Those media id programs are good in many instances...but you just can't be sure of where the disks came from all the time.

As far as the "GRADE" goes. There are strict requirements for Grade A media....appearance is actually one of them. I've recently gotten some "GRADE B" Ritek G04 silver tops..where the sides look like complete CRAP...but the "burn side" where the dye is..looks 100% perfect. The disks burn and play flawlessly.....but there were some GRADE D OPTO's that made it out..and some Grade C Ritek's which recently were released. This is why people have had some problems with Ritek and Opto lately. Other then appearance though...things such as dripping or splotted dye will cause a disk to be a lower Grade.

Many manufacturers INTENTIONALLY make inferior media for different markets....for example a media manufacturer called "X MEDIA" may make Grade A media to be shipped to the resellers in the States...but may ship Grade C or even Grade D media to the Asian market. Basically, the way you'd know if you have lower grade media is by burning a few and watching the disks. As long as they play fine...you have top notch Ritek which you probably do. Look at the appearance as well..look at the sides of all the disks in the spindle....do they look like crap or are the sides perfectly smooth? If they look like the most recent Riteks I got..they are probably Grade B...but other then the appearance...they are really Grade A in terms of performance.

I dont know the difference but I have been using Ritek 4X Speed DVD-R 4.7G Single Sided Write Once Media 50PACK, Model DRD-47-4X-RDSM - OEM; these are the ones for 54.99. I have used over 150 with no coasters. Before this I ordered 100 from Rima (Ritek G04), the first 50 stack went fine, then I opened the second 50, the first 10 went ok, but then after that, the rest were junk, they burned fine, just wouldnt play!! I know it wasnt the burner or movie! Becuase I burned 1 Ritek that was a dud, then I burned the same movie on to a DVD-RW, played fine; the whole works, then I burned it AGAIN on a Ritek, dud!! But I do admit Rima.com had the best Customer service I have seen. It took them 10 minutes to get back to me about my bad disc's. And when I sent back my bad 38-40, they just sent me a 50 spindle. So Im not sayin dont buy from Rima.com, but if they were 10-20 bucks cheaper I would buy from them. But everyoen is thinking whats 20bucks, well I go through about 200+ a month!! And newegg shipping is fast for the price; FREE!!!

i got the same discs/deal from pc club. only burnt 1 dvd-r so far, but it burnt @4x with copytodvd. questions: if you look at one of your blanks is there a ring already burnt about 1/8th inch from the hub? also this is where the burn starts...1/8th" from the clear hub. all 50 discs have the ring. but i was able to fill the disc (4464M), though. have not played it on a set-top yet. powerdvd played it fine.

  12. Well, I bought a 50-pack of Newegg's RITEK G04s and, as much as it pains me to say it, these discs are CRAP. 5 out of 5 are bad already, and there's big splotches throughout the dye layer. It's not pretty from the side either, but I could have lived with that. This is not like the quality I've come to expect from Newegg... perhaps a supplier has hoodwinked them.

  13. Well, it's not like newegg.com actually manurfactures the discs.

My Ritek sides look crappy, its jagged, not smooth. On one of the DVD's I burned, well there's 2 tiny spots in the burn area that looks like ink dripped on it, its darker than the rest of the burn area.

On one disc, the video plays fine in a stand alone dvd player and it plays fine in my comp but when i try to skip to some part of the movie on the computer, there would be an error saying the disc is dirty and the movie would stop playing.

Yep I got the same ring and the burn starts from there....I've been able to fill it all the way. Mine plays on a set top fine.

I bought 50 of these last week. So far I'm 30/31 on burning. 1 coaster, no known reason while burning in Nero. The edges are pretty dam rough, not smooth like I'm used to for CDR's. They seem like all my other RITEK G04's.
