  1. I've seen this with 4 different burners. here's the deal: If i burn @ 12x or better, the video breaks up so much it becomes unwatchable, and later in the disk it will often crash the dvd player.

The only way I can possibly have it work is when i burn at 8x speed. (the lowest my main burner suports.

I have tried many brands of media (Sony, verbatim, cursor, hp cdr, + HP cdrw.) none will play when burned at 12x of faster. And at 8x many of them fail and get progressivley worse.

    burners I have tried:
LG 4020B DVD-RW drive (has pioneer a107 guts), LG 40x drive, Liteon 40x drive, cicero 12x drive.
I've tried burning with no other apps runing and with other apps running, no real difference.
Also on multiple machines (I have 4)

What is going on? I wannaknow if ANYBODY can burn vcd or svcd fast and have it WORK. I burn games and data without issues.

it really sux when I sit down to watch movie and stick in dvd player and blocks and pops and stuttering. start happening.

i've been using nero to burn them all, from nero 5.5 through the latest version 6.

And if burning vcd and svcd fast doesnt work, why does nerod eault to max speed all the time? max speed guarentees the disk will 100% not play every time i try it, not even play at all.

All the disks were rated for 40x-48x.

I have burned VCD and SVCD at 4x out to 48x ( never bought 42x media :P ). Never ever had an issue, even speed burning 32x media at 48x.

You don't mention what you are burning them with? I can't be a hrdware issue, so let's look at what's common to all settups. Operating system? Burning sofware?

I've had great success with Nero 5.9.xxx and 6.0.x burning VCD/SVCD. Try VCDEasy, it's pretty solid for this. Nero/Recordnow, try changing from one to the other? Avoid Roxio.

  5. Actually the only thing common to them all is your player? do these discs play on other machines? do they play in your computer/s? defrag your hard disk...reboot and run burn app right after. i have burnt vcd & svcd between 1x and 24x no recurrent problems (except of my own making). vcdeasy nero 5.5.10 tmpgenc dvd2svcd
also "blocky" can mean too-low bitrate... pops and crackles can be sound-card related... esp on captured material.

  6. i will splain what I mean by blocky. Bad burn. Data missing. Not blocky as in a bad encode, but chunks will appear as audio goes out and it stops playing for a bit, skips some, continues. It will gradually get so bad the player will stop playing completely and maybe even crash.

2 players in question uive triued: Apex ad1500, and a shiny new JVC with progressive scan and dts support. itll hgang, maybe audio go out, maybe pop or chirp, then come back. PC's cannot read the whole file either when tring to copy, pxlorer tries for ages to read it.

Buy Taiyo-Yuden CD-R discs as they are the best you can buy. Not really expensive either but you have to get them mail order (although some ... note some ... FUJI packs of CD-R discs are Taiyo Yuden but only if it says MADE IN JAPAN on it).

Let's rule out cheap or crappy media by doing this (i.e., buying the Taiyo-Yuden brand CD-R discs).

I have an old DVD player that was (like many 1st to 3rd gen DVD players) not good at CD-R discs. The only brand it will PLAY without ever giving me issues is ... you guessed it ... Taiyo-Yuden brand.

Damn the Japanese really know how to make shit

I've burned at the fastest the burner would support, 24 to 48 X, on a dozen or more brands down to bare assed disk, no printing at all, and almost all played well.

The ones that didn't, would after a re-encode.

He said he was using Nero up through the 6.xxx version.

Have you checked the burn with Nero's tools? Has Nero itself told you it failed on a burn? I've had that happen and they still played. Apex 1201 and Philips 724 myself, several others, including a Koss at work, my kid's Apex1101, some others, but, funny, not my other kid's Samsung, though the compatability list under players to the left says it will play damn near anything.

Ah, well, the crosses we have to bear.

    Cheers,

    George

  9. [edit] -- sorry misread your post!

Looks like there is a burning problem, but it isn't clear whether it is a compatibility issue between the media/burner/software. I suggest trying a different brand of CD-R and trying a different burning engine (e.g., using VCDEasy / CDRDAO -- or burning with CDRWin, or burning with CloneCD).

    Regards.

[EDIT] ..new machine.. I missread too .. .. .. I thought was refering to
    DVD players!!

But, actually, I was gonna recommend that the poster get a new
CD burner, cause he stated that he tried other players

    Still on topic...
Heck, I still burn at 4x oh, and while we're at it, I juts picked up a new
DVD burner, because my CenDyne 4x DVD Writer[DVR-105]
is not supported under Windows 98, despite the many posts (and hints)
I've made here, no one came up w/ a solution/remedy. So, it was time
to make a choice, and I made it today.. spend some more $$$.$$ and
get a new one that IS supported under Windows 98. I got OptoRite
    @ $149 today.
So, as I was saying, maybe the poster might benefit (after some more
tweaking around) to get a new burner (different brand) and see if that
    cures his/her issues.

    Good luck just the same,

  11. It sounds like it's either lousy media or a picky DVD player. Have you tried the movies on an Apex or generic "made in China" DVD player, or just any newer player made in the last year. I know my older name brand Toshiba and Zenith player couldn't play anything other than factory pressed DVD's or CD's.

Also, although everyone says Taiyo Yudens are the best, they're getting harder to find. Fuji seems to have stopped using them for their brand. You can still buy Taiyo Yudens though www.supermediastore.com. They are $39 for a stack of 100, but you get what you pay for. I actually use cheap media all the time for videos and movies that I don't really care much about and it works fine for my Apex most of the time, but for important stuff like family photos and data, it's only Taiyo Yuden, although I'm having some good experiences recently with Ritek CD-R's as well.

I just went to BEST BUY today and I think you are correct. The only FUJI CD-R packs I could find that said MADE IN JAPAN (meaning that most likely they are Taiyo-Yuden CD-R discs) was a 10 pack in slim style jewel cases and that 10 pack was $7.99

I bought them because I needed a couple RIGHT NOW but yeah I guess on-line is now the way to go for Taiyo-Yuden shopping.

  13. I have apex ad 1500 for my regionfree+ no macrovision needs, and a shiny new JVC player.

I HAVE been using nero to burn all my vcd's............ 5.5 throuhg the newst (bought nero, no w@rez so I always keep it updated)
    nero never says bad burn.

Maybe I'll try different burning software, and ask if any future posters uising nero have these issues as well.

(burning isos wit nero and data disks and cd audio are always OK BTW)
