  1. I have tried to solv this problem for over 10 hours now and start to get a bit desperate. I can't get my burner back to dma mode what ever I do. It's still in this f***ing pio mode.

    I have tried the following.

    Upgrade BIOS
    Change firmware
    Upgrade ASPI
    Upgrade chipset
    Change IDE cable
    Deleted IDE canal

    Nothing seems to help

I beginn to wonder if this problem is impossible to solve!

  2. Got this from another forum and, this is assuming you're using xp. Seems to happen with xp when read errors occur.

    Open registry editor
    Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEMS\CurrentControlSet\Cont rol\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}"

The Default Value should be "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
Go to "0001" key if your device is on Primary IDE Chanel or "0002" if your device is on Secondary IDE channel and change the MasterDeviceTimingModeAllowed or SlaveDeviceTimingModeAllowed to 0xffffffff depending if your device is master or slave close registry editor.

Go to device manager select "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and the corresponding IDE chanel go to "Advanced Settings" Tab and Set Transfer Mode to PIO and then to DMA if available again.
    That's should do it.
    Good Luck

  3. Dont know why but before i buy dvd my cdrw lg changed in xp from mword ultra dma to pio... I just deinstalled it from device manager & find it again... Windows set up dma mode again... 3 or 4 month past & no problem....

    Sorry for my bad "inglish"

  4. Your "inglish" is just fine.

  5. As Sony wrote, you need to remove the IDE controller entry from device manager, reboot and XP will add new hardware and then reboot again and it will(should) come up in DMA mode. If there are problems writing to or from the drive, XP will monitor and eventually lock it into PIO mode.

  6. Hi all.

I've just tried the registry hack upping the acceptable # of errors.
Then I tried removing the Secondary IDE Channel in device manager and rebooting twice,
then removing each of the two Intel IDE Controllers, and rebooting twice for each controller removed.
I also set the writers to DMA if available again on the second IDE channel and rebooting again.

Nothing helps. My A06 is still in PIO land.

    *EDIT*

    Problem solved.

Found this link over at doom9.org and it works for my Dell 8300 at least.

    http://support.dell.com/filelib/format.aspx?releaseid=r53986

Try this utility. Always worked for me when I couldn't get DMA enabled.

  7. Removing the IDE controller and rebooting has worked for me, but my drive's problem was temporary, nothing really wrong with the drive. Perhaps there is a continuing problem with the A06 and errors continue. Is DMA working on your Primary IDE?

  8. This has always worked for me also...Intel application accelerator, go to the intel site or just google search...

DMA is fine in the primary IDE channel which has 2 HDs. Secondary channel has a DVD-ROM drive master and the A06 slave. I never even put a disk in the A06 in almost all those times I was reinstalling drivers/devices. So I don't know how it could be finding new read/write problems. Besides I did the registry hack to make XP insensitive to read errors first before anything else.

  10. Shaynew: Glad to see you find a solution. I have the exact same settings as you: DMA is fine in the primary IDE channel which has 2 HDs. Secondary channel has a DVD-ROM drive master and the A06(I'm Using Philips dvdrw 228) slave. As I wrote earlier I have Tried to remove the IDE controller entry from device manager, but didn't help. Have also tried Intel application accelerator, didn't help.

Now I will test the prog at this link: http://support.dell.com/filelib/format.aspx?releaseid=r53986

And I pray for it to work........

  11. No NO NO I remeber I all ready download and tried this prog yesterday.

    Guees what, it didn't work!

I don't running a Dell system, so that may be why it dosen't work for me

  12. Have you tried the following? See instructions for enabling DMA for hard drives and CD/DVD-RW drives under WinXP at:

  13. Yes, that was one of the first things I tried. Should I have to buy I new burner to solve the probem?

Aggh I'm not even sure if it's the burner cause the problem. It may even be related to the motherboard.....

  14. You got Service Pack 1 installed?
    Quote Quote
  15. Well I reformat my harddisk a while ago and I don't think I have insatlled any service packs since. That may maybe cause this dma problem?

Well, I had a similiar problem with a new system until I installed SP1 for WinXP (Windows Update).

  17. For some (really troublesome Mo Boards) set powermanagement to "APCI" in Bios(DEL key at bootup)A 80 pin 66/100 IDE cable
for UDMA speeds, DMA set for the Harddrive (I assume you already set the DVD drive to DMA if avail.)<If not, you need to DL IDE driver from the MoBo Mfg for your OS, (the chipset provider driver may not work as the MoBo MFG sometimes do strange mods to std. chips).
Now remove/reinstall IDE Primary & secondary drivers in device manager(Controlpannel/System/Hardware/Devicemanager/IDE/ATAPI controlers)& PCI IDE UDMA controlers, install new drivers & I think you`ll like what you get (after reboot).

  19. Tried to upgrade to service pack 1. And no change

I will post the report Intal Application Accelerator gave me.

My burner is located as secodary master, if you look there it says
    Cable Type (Device): 40 Conductor
    Cable Type (Host): 40 Conductor

On the other 3 units(2hdd and 1dvd-rom) it says
    Cable Type (Device): 80 Conductor
    Cable Type (Host): 80 Conductor
    Strange?

Well People take a look at the report and see if you can find any problems,plzzzzzzz.......
