  1. Hello All,

Looking at buying an Epson R300 photo/CD Printer but what I would like to know is if anyone has successfully refilled an ink cartridge in one of these babies? I see there are 6 different cartridges what colours are these? I know the usuals are Cyan, Magenta, yellow and black.

I've got a cannon at the minute and refilling with the JR inkjet Refill kit is very very easy!

I dont wanna splash out and then get stung when buying replacement cartridges

anyone done this yet or knows how to cos I've heard theres a chip that needs resetting also - is this true?

Yep, they are chipped. I don;t know about this printer as I have not yet looked at it. However, I am very interested in getting one for my small home business where I shoot and produce machine shop related instructional hobby videos and DVDs.

The chip comes preset with a "FULL" code from the factory and as you use up ink, newer codes are overwritten to the chick from the computer end of things. When the final code saying it is "EMPTY" gets sent to the chick then the cart is to be considered as empty and the red light indicator will flash on your printer. Each major family of chipped EPSON printers utilize their own codes which makes it difficult. Older series 870/880 printers could be reset with a little device. You pried off the chick and put in into a little caddie which was then inserted into the resetter. A few seconds and the chip was coded to "FULL" you them popped back on to the cart and assuming you had refilled it, that was all you needed to do.

I'm quite sure, no one has made a resetter for this printer unless the cart # is uses are from an earlier family of printers.

I did this for many years till my printer died. I have switched to a Cannon 6 color photo printer and its carts are super easy to fill up. Love the fact that they have a liquid side to the resevoir. More ink!!!!

You should get quite a high number of CD/DVDs printed before needing to replace the carts but I assume that they will cost about $12 each.
